Full-Time; 9 Hour day M-F; plus, overtime as needed General Description This position is responsible for performing a variety of engineering assignments including creation, plan, design, and redesign of products and product components from concept to manufacturing. This position also creates graphical representations of product concepts for product samples. The Engineer works cross-functionally to coordinate the development and design with sales, marketing, engineering, tooling, and manufacturing. Principle Responsibilities Conceptualize new products and product enhancements. Assume responsibility for a timely and complete product development cycle, including layouts, drawings, testing and prototype construction. Research and evaluate the design of new products and product enhancements considering manufacturability, cost containment, part standardization, quality standards, product appearance, aesthetics, functionality, and durability. Excel in creativity and detail to produce innovative accurate designs that can be fabricated and built in a quality manner for our customers. Ensure the integrity of information released to the shop floor. Provide technical assistance and problem-solving support to operations to resolve manufacturing and quality problems related to methods, processes, tooling, and equipment. Drive improved product quality by identifying manufacturing issues, developing cost-effective solutions, and overseeing successful implementation into production. Develop and conduct engineering field tests and provide technical assessments; test revise and retest as needed. Collaborate with sales representatives, engineers, customers and others to determine customer needs and provide insight on MDI's engineering and design capabilities. Domestic and International travel to customer and/or supplier as needed. Regularly provide project status updates in the Project Tracking Database. Benchmark industry standards and best practices to incorporate into MDI design. (attend trade shows, conduct research). Test vendor and competitors' products. Implement continuous improvement processes and the documentation of those processes. Be an effective team-player. Work cross-functionally with all MDI departments and personnel. Exemplify a professional work demeanor, upholding the Company Core Values. Maintain a clean and safe work area and contribute to safety awareness in the workplace. All other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications/Skills Strong Communication skills to foster a positive work environment. Originality, initiative and ingenuity in developing new products. Familiarity with manufacturing systems and processes. Ability to multitask and prioritize work to manage multiple projects effectively. Education and Work Experience Product design experience with various manufacturing equipment, product structures, foundations, extrusions, wind loads and knowledgeable with various metals and plastics. Familiarity with the point of purchase and traffic control products industry a plus. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural or Industrial Design. Computer Skills Proficient in CAD software, primarily 3-D solid molding and drawing creation. Solid Works training a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, etc.). Knowledge of AS400/Mac-Pac software a plus. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
