Summary:
Responsible for the development of CUV body structures and Truck frame structures to meet performance and regulatory requirements.
Must have a good understanding of crash, durability and strengths, and stiffness requirements as related to passenger vehicles and/or trucks.
Responsible for the design and development of:
CUV upper body metal and trim parts such as body sides, A/B/C pillar structures, sills, roof, fenders, hood and/or Full-size or mid-size truck frames and frame bolt-on trim parts such as tow hooks, tow hitches, splash shields/under covers, exhaust shields, spare tire carriers.
Job encompasses:
New model and/or current model programs.
Quality improvement through warranty reduction analysis.
Cost reduction of existing models.
Willing to work overtime as needed.
Job Duties:
Daily use of NX-CAD to make designs, present proposals and release new or improved designs.
Daily, extensive cross functional and cross cultural interaction with suppliers, program management teams, manufacturing, other design groups, cost estimators, purchasing, assembly plants, styling, test groups and prototype technicians.
Variation and tolerance analysis at both component and system level.
Make presentations of ideas and studies to upper management to secure approvals and budget.
Manage supplier to develop parts, meet cost, timing and quality targets.
Manage cost and weight of assigned parts to meet or exceed targets.
Warranty reduction using root cause analysis techniques.
Generate, validate, and release technical cost reduction proposals.
Minimum
Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Strong ability to visualize part or system and work in a totally digital environment through the development cycle until physical phase.
Ability to work in a multicultural, multilingual environment, across several time zones.
Ability and flexibility to handle multiple issues and tasks.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
Willingness to work overtime as necessary to complete job.
Strong presentation skills.
Strong negotiation skills.
Experience with CAD system - Proficiency with NX and/or I-DEAS is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of GD&T.
Experience making tolerance stack and variation studies on both system and sub-system levels.
Experience evaluating component quality and weld quality cut and etch reports.
Prior experience in vehicle testing is a plus (crash, durability).
Working knowledge of vehicle and component level CAE and how to leverage for design direction and decision making.
Crash, Durability, Strength, Stiffness .
Knowledge of Six Sigma and statistical process capability checks (ex. Cp, CpK, PpK) Experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
